Jude Emmanere
Jude Emmanere is a Certified Hand Therapist/Occupational Therapist. She has her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Puget Sound, Class of 1978. The first phase of Judeʼs career centered on providing O.T. services to a pediatric population in New Hampshire. In 1985, she completed the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test Administration certification through Sensory Integration International and Western Psychological Services. Jude then worked with an adult/geriatric population in the hospital arena, which led her into a managerial position at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Vermont. Her duties included both fiscal and service-delivery responsibilities for the OT acute care inpatient and outpatient population, as well as all program development for the eighteen-bed acute rehabilitation floor. In 1997, Jude shifted her focus to envelope hand therapy. She worked at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire and became the lead hand therapist for the plastic surgery departmentʻs hand clinic. In 2000 she started working at McKenzie Willamette Medical Center located in Springfield, Oregon. During that time, Jude received her hand therapy certification from HTCC. Currently, Jude is providing hand therapy at Atlas Physical, Hand and Massage Therapy in Eugene, Oregon.
Jude completed certification for the use of Graston Instruments (which assist with soft tissue mobilization), and for kinesio-taping. She uses mirror boxes as one avenue to address the cognitive rehabilitation of pain. A sampling of Judeʼs ongoing educational training includes: advanced splinting, biomechanics of the hand, joint and soft tissue mobilizations, John Barnes myofascial-release techniques, neurodynamic tension testing/treatment, and evidence-based practice.
Jude considers her "guru" of the hand therapy world to be the late Dr. Paul Brand, an orthopedic surgeon who pioneered tendon transfers. Her favorite books written by Paul Brand: "Clinical Mechanics of the Hand", and coauthored with Phillip Yancey: "Wonderfully and Fearfully Made."
Jude describes her therapeutic approach as a blend of using advanced bio-mechanical principles, educating, coaching, sculpting, and appreciating the layers of the healing process that restore hand function for each personʼs full participation in life activities. Jude enjoys the many aspects of her three adult sons and one daughter-in-law. She has a golden retriever that plays search-find, loves retrieving on land and water, and loves hiking with Jude. Jude enjoys backpacking with close friends, singing, dancing, playing piano, some novice cello playing, and meditative artwork.
